The Jewish daily prayers, called in Hebrew “Sidûr,” include “Thirteen Principles of the Faith,” composed by the famous Moses Maimonides (Rambam). These are to be repeated by faithful Jews with their morning prayers, and include the following: “I believe with perfect faith that all the words of the prophets are true” (clause 6); “I believe with perfect faith that the prophecy of Moses our teacher, peace be unto him, was true, and that he was the chief of the prophets, both of those that preceded and of those that followed him” (clause 7); “I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, and, though he tarry, I will wait daily for his coming” (clause 12). Perhaps today we could unite in prayer for God’s ancient people and those who are seeking to minister to them, that they may confess with Simeon, “Mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel” (Lk 2:30-32).
